I gotsome 'splainin' to do.

I alluded in an earlier post Jade and I were moving to Playa del Carmen.  I thought I would explain a little bit about why we are and why it seems we never stay in one location for very long.  This is one of the characteristics of being married to a professional poker player and a previous member of the elite Army Rangers.  The Army used to make Jade move all of his belongings across the country, or 2 doors down the hall, just to get the men comfortable with change.  This need for change has carried over into our lives as well.  As a professional poker player, Jade can pick almost any place in the world to live and work.  Key word: almost.  The US Government made it illegal for financial institutions, a.k.a., banks, to accept money from online gambling sites.  This decision put my husband out of work for a few months until he set up residency in Mexico.  So now, he basically can work anywhere BUT the US.

This is exactly how I felt!

You ask, "Why Mexico?  Isn't it dangerous?"  Jade and I and the pups loaded up our Nissan with as much stuff we could fit and drove to Cuernavaca, Mexico In January 2009.  We stayed for 180 days (the maximum allowed for a US citizen) and studied Spanish.  Si, hablo espanol.

We met some wonderful people, including some attorneys, professors, and fellow students.  We only had a few minor troubles with the police while there, and it was overall, I pretty positive experience.

Me at a museum in Acapulco

Another sunset in Acapulco.  This was Jade's office view!

When Jade needed another country to go to work, he naturally chose one where we already had friends and a network.  He's been living there off and on for months, and we both wanted something a little more permanent and sustainable for our relationship.

So, to convince me Mexico was that place, we are moving to the beautiful beaches of Playa del Carmen!  I have been looking for places to rent and activities to do all week.  We will be here for at least a year, and we are planning on taking our pups again this time.  The rest of our stuff will be in storage.  I have already found A TON of activities to do.  Including, visiting the 7th wonder of the world: Chichen Itza.  I'm totally obsessed with Mayan culture so this is right up my alley.
